Acclaimed British author Ken Follett, whose works have captivated readers worldwide with sales exceeding 190 million copies, continues to identify as left-leaning, he recently stated in an interview with “Stern” magazine.
“My fundamental attitude hasn’t changed” Follett affirmed. He emphasized that holding leftist views doesn’t inherently equate to naiveté.
Addressing the perceived contradiction between his progressive political stance and a lifestyle that includes owning a Rolls Royce and enjoying luxury, Follett dismissed it as inconsequential. “Those who betray their positions through wealth have never truly represented them. That doesn’t apply to me” he explained. He noted achieving millionaire status at a relatively young age, allowing him to become accustomed to a certain level of affluence. “What benefit is there in drinking lemonade instead of champagne?
Follett’s latest novel, “Stonehenge – The Cathedral of Time” transports readers to the era of England’s most iconic prehistoric monument. While largely fictional, the narrative draws inspiration from historical possibilities, presenting a reimagining of the Neolithic period. This version features a society where women hold positions as priestesses and depicts normalized same-sex relationships, giving the story a contemporary feel.
“We’ve long assumed that a grave containing a sword automatically belongs to a man” Follett observed, referencing ongoing genetic research that challenges this assumption. He highlighted a historical tendency in England to overlook the potential for female leadership in smaller communities, despite recognizing powerful queens throughout the nation’s history.
His decision to portray same-sex relationships as commonplace, he clarified, is rooted in the historical prevalence of such acceptance in ancient civilizations, such as Greece. “It’s based on the fact that in ancient Greece and other early societies, homosexual love was even considered noble. I have no agenda regarding LGBTQ issues”.
