Sweden’s EU Minister, Jessica Rosencrantz, is calling for a robust response from the European Union following recent incidents in Poland involving Russian drones. She emphasized the need for the upcoming 19th EU sanctions package to include measures targeting Russia’s shadow fleet.
“We must agree on a further sanctions package against Russia that impacts both its energy revenues and those enabling the shadow fleet” Rosencrantz told the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers (Saturday editions). She underscored the importance of preventing further support for the Russian war economy.
Referring to the drones discovered within Poland, Rosencrantz stated the situation was taken very seriously. “It is completely unacceptable that Polish airspace was violated”. She classified Russia as a threat to European security, noting that while new NATO defense spending commitments had been agreed upon, tangible action was now crucial. “Now we need to translate words into deeds and make these investments”.
