Lawmaker Faces Disciplinary Probe

A disciplinary process against Sascha Lensing, a police officer and Member of the German Bundestag for the AfD party, has been underway within the Duisburg police headquarters for over a year, according to reports from news portal T-Online. Lensing has confirmed the existence of the proceedings but declined to comment on their specific content, stating he has confidence in the rule of law.

The Administrative Court of Düsseldorf has confirmed that a disciplinary lawsuit against Lensing has been pending since May 2024. Neither the court nor the Duisburg police headquarters has provided further details regarding the case.

Prior to his election to the Bundestag in 2025, Lensing served as a police officer in Duisburg and had been actively involved in local politics with the AfD for several years. He currently identifies as a Detective Chief Inspector (retired). This designation is permitted for members of parliament whose employment relationship is suspended due to their parliamentary mandate.

Disciplinary lawsuits arise from disciplinary proceedings initiated by the employer and typically aim for downgrading or termination. Three months ago, Lensing stated at a campaign rally in Duisburg that attempts had been made to remove him from his position as a civil servant.

Reports from T-Online suggest that the proceedings likely concern posts made on social media. A connection to Björn Höcke, the Thuringian AfD state executive speaker, whose state association has been monitored as a reliably right-wing extremist entity by the state protection agency since 2021, may also be relevant.
