US Markets Rise Nasdaq Falters

US equity markets closed higher on Monday, demonstrating a modest recovery following recent trading activity. The Dow Jones Industrial Average reached 36,454 points by the close of trading in New York, a gain of 0.3% compared to the previous session.

Shortly before the close, the broader S&P 500 registered approximately 4,995 points, up 0.2%, while the Nasdaq 100 was calculated at around 9,760 points, reflecting a 0.5% increase.

The Nasdaq 100 briefly touched a new all-time high during the session, although this momentum was not sustained through the close. Semiconductor firm Broadcom, with its stock rising by more than 3%, was a key driver of the technology index’s performance.

Hopes for potential interest rate cuts have been reignited among investors following Friday’s disappointing jobs report. Several analysts have revised their forecasts, anticipating a sooner-than-expected and potentially more significant move by the Federal Reserve.

The euro strengthened against the dollar on Monday evening, trading at $1.0916, with the dollar fetching €0.9159.

Gold prices saw a significant increase, reaching $2,018 per fine ounce (+1.5%), equivalent to €73.62 per gram.

Oil prices also rose. Brent crude, from the North Sea, was trading at $73.87 per barrel on Monday evening, a 62-cent or 1.0% increase from the previous day’s closing price.
