Reports indicate Hamas is considering accepting the latest ceasefire proposal put forward by Egyptian and Qatari mediators. These reports, originating from Arabic media outlets citing Hamas representatives, detail a phased release of remaining hostages coupled with a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
A recent meeting involving Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Palestinian factions, the Egyptian intelligence chief and Hamas officials has been described as constructive. Qatar’s Al-Araby TV reports participants demonstrated increased responsibility and determination to bring an end to the ongoing conflict.
However, Israel has maintained its position that it will only agree to a comprehensive agreement guaranteeing the immediate release of all hostages. Further stated Israeli conditions include the disarmament of Hamas, the demilitarization of Gaza, Israeli control over the territory and the establishment of a governing body not affiliated with either Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.
