Taurus Missile Production Resumes

MBDA, a leading missile system manufacturer, is preparing for a potential resumption of production for the “Taurus” cruise missile. According to Thomas Gottschild, CEO of MBDA Germany, in comments to the Handelsblatt newspaper, the company is “ready to start production promptly if an order from the customer is received.

Currently, efforts are focused on modernizing and comprehensively maintaining the existing Taurus inventory within the Bundeswehr, according to a mandate approved at the end of 2024. This modernization process precedes any potential new production runs.

The Taurus missile is expected to remain a crucial component of Germany’s arsenal of long-range weaponry, capable of striking targets deep within enemy territory. The Bundeswehr last received a shipment of Taurus missiles in 2010.

Beyond Germany, the Taurus has been acquired by Sweden, South Korea and Spain, though it has never been deployed by those nations. Approximately 600 units are believed to be in storage within the Bundeswehr’s depots and MBDA is now undertaking measures to bring these existing stocks back into operational readiness.
