Germany’s Federal and Regional Transport Ministers Unanimously Reject Shouldering Additional Costs of the Germany Ticket from 2026
Germany’s federal and regional transport ministers have categorically rejected the notion of shouldering the additional costs of the Germany Ticket from 2026. According to a draft resolution, “the states see no possibility of collectively allocating more than 1.5 billion euros per year for the ticket, given the strained budget situation.”
The ministers are aware that, according to the coalition agreement, the federal government intends to maintain the user-financing share of the Germany Ticket until the end of 2028. They expect the federal government to cover the associated additional costs in the public transportation sector.
The Germany Ticket has been a success and the transport ministers note a close connection between the ticket’s success and the quality of the transportation offer. The conference also established that the sustainable financing of an attractive transportation offer is a fundamental prerequisite for even more users of the Germany Ticket. Therefore, the ministers reaffirmed the demand to increase regular regional funding permanently.
