A 39-year-old Tunisian man, suspected of multiple thefts in the region, led a dramatic police chase in the Neckar-Odenwald-Kreis, Germany, on Saturday, culminating in his arrest in Walldürn-Hornbach.
The pursuit began at 14:45 hours, when the man, who had stolen a police vehicle, was being tracked by law enforcement in the area of Walldürn. He caused an accident in Hornbach and in the ensuing scuffle, he threatened police officers with an object and stole another police vehicle.
The man then fled in the stolen police car towards Schneeberg, colliding with a pursuing police vehicle on a forest road between Schneeberg-Hambrunn and Schneeberg-Zittenfelden, rendering the vehicle inoperable. Shortly after, he caused another accident and in a ruse to feign injury, he managed to steal a Bavarian police vehicle and flee back to Walldürn-Hornbach, where he was eventually apprehended.
During the high-speed chase, police from both German states, Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, fired multiple shots. The suspect is believed to have committed additional property crimes in the region and a police officer sustained minor injuries in the pursuit. The extent of the damage to the police vehicles is still unknown. The suspect was scheduled to appear before a judge in Mosbach on Sunday.
