Green Leader Demands Merz Step Up and Take Charge of Failed Coalition Government

Britta Haßelmann, the leader of the Green Party’s parliamentary group, delivered a highly critical assessment of the “black-red” government coalition, simultaneously calling upon CDU leader Friedrich Merz to take decisive action. Speaking to the news portal T-Online, Haßelmann stated that Merz must finally assume his leadership responsibilities. She added a hopeful note, stating, “I hope that Friedrich Merz and Lars Klingbeil finally become sensible”.

According to Haßelmann, a year under the black-red regime has made it clear that the government is “incapable of action” and failing to perform. The Co-Chairwoman of the Green parliamentary group criticized the coalition for constantly making-but failing to keep-promises.

Looking ahead, the Green Party parliamentary group is scheduled to hold a closed-door session in Leipzig starting Tuesday. Joining the gathering will be Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, CDU politician and Chairman of the affiliated Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Haßelmann justified the invitation by asserting that exchanging ideas is “essential in times of crisis like these”. She emphasized the urgency of different “democratic forces” collaborating to prevent the “division of society”. Haßelmann stressed, “We stand for this, and Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, in her role at the KAS, stands for this. We Greens will always maintain these connections”.
