Europe on High Alert as Refugee Crisis Looms in the Wake of a Potential Israeli-Iranian War
In a recent interview, Alexander Throm, the chief spokesperson for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, expressed concerns that a potential war between Israel and Iran could trigger a new wave of refugees heading towards Central Europe.
While there has been a significant exodus of people from Tehran, Throm warned that it is not a distant phenomenon, emphasizing that it is “more or less at the doorstep of European nations.” He stressed the importance of the principle of subsidiary in international refugee law, which prioritizes the absorption of refugees in their home countries or neighboring regions.
Throm also highlighted the threat of hybrid warfare, citing the examples of Russia and Belarus, which have been using migration as a tool to destabilize Europe, particularly Germany. The CDU politician urged a heightened focus on this issue, warning that the European continent must be vigilant in the face of such tactics.
