Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced plans to hold talks with US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, following a series of military strikes against Iran.
According to Netanyahu’s office, the prime minister has been in contact with leading politicians worldwide since Thursday evening, including Germany’s Chancellor, India’s Prime Minister and France’s President. He will also speak with Trump, Putin and the British Prime Minister in the coming days.
The leaders, as reported by Israel, have shown “understanding for Israel’s defense needs in the face of Iran’s destructive threat.” Netanyahu has stated that he will maintain contact with them over the next few days, his office added.
The outcome of the talks with Trump and Putin remains unclear, given the complex relationships between the three nations. The US is traditionally a close ally of Israel, while Russia has good ties with Iran. Meanwhile, the UN Security Council is set to convene on Friday to discuss the current situation in Iran.
