In a sudden disruption to the proceedings, a visitor in the German Bundestag chamber loudly shouted “Free Palestine” and was escorted out of the room by security personnel.
The Bundestag President, Julia Klöckner, addressed the remaining attendees, expressing concern for the apparent distress of the students present. “This does not typically occur here” she said, “which is why visitors sit in the visitor’s gallery, as they are not participants in the proceedings.” While the Bundestag welcomes visitors who are interested in parliamentary debates, she emphasized.
Earlier, a Left Party member, Cansin Köktürk, was removed from the chamber by Klöckner after wearing a Palestine-themed shirt. As Köktürk left, she hurled a remark at the session leader.
