New Transport Minister Urged to Stop Airlines Leaving Germany for Affordable Air Tickets

The federal states are urging the new Transport Minister, Patrick Schnieder (CDU), to stop the exodus of airlines from Germany in order to make flight tickets more affordable again. According to a report by the “Air Traffic Working Group” of the Transport Ministers’ Conference, which was reported in the “Rheinische Post” (Friday edition), state-related costs for airlines have risen sharply in recent years.

“Germany is being avoided as a destination” the committee states. Therefore, the national air traffic tax, air security fees and flight safety fees should be reduced, the transport ministers of the federal states are demanding of the federal government.

Union’s tourism expert, Anja Karliczek (CDU), said that the coalition agreement between the Union and the SPD includes necessary measures. “German airports must once again become a spider in the network of European tourism” Karliczek, the CDU politician, said. “This benefits German tourists, but also our tourist destinations, which are in tough international competition” she added.
