After CDU leader Friedrich Merz failed in the first round of the Chancellor election, factions are discussing a second round. During the session break on Tuesday afternoon, Alexander Dobrindt (CSU), Jens Spahn (CDU) and Lars Klingbeil (SPD) went into the Green party faction meeting. Meanwhile, the plenary was almost empty, with many AfD members still sitting in their seats. According to information from the dts news agency, the Bundestag administration has already set the continuation of the Bundestag session for 3:00 PM. However, it was unclear whether this would actually happen. Merz did not receive the required absolute majority of votes in the first round. At least 18 members of the Union and SPD voted against him.
