Digital Minister Admits Mistake Over Failed Thousand Euro Employee Bonus

Federal Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger (CDU) has admitted to errors made by the federal government, following the failure to implement a planned 1,000 Euro premium for workers during the Bundesrat proceedings. However, he also pointed to the intense political pressure surrounding such decisions.

During an appearance on the ntv program “Blome & Pfeffer” on Monday, Wildberger noted the difficulty of reaching solutions when operating under the tremendous and continually heightened expectations that characterize modern political decision-making. He stated, “It shows how difficult it is…. to come to solutions under enormous pressure”. He conceded that when many things happen “very under time pressure, mistakes also happen” clarifying that this should be seen as an explanation rather than an excuse.

Wildberger also emphasized that criticism coming from both economic and political sectors must be taken seriously. “The communication needs to improve” the Minister stressed. Furthermore, he highlighted open financial funding issues between the federal government and the individual states, noting that these areas require even greater communication.

Concluding his remarks regarding the setback in the Bundesrat debate, the minister added that under extremely pressurized situations, caution must be exercised to prevent itself from being carried away. He concluded with a candid reflection, stating that he applies this advice to himself as a member of the current governing coalition.
