IG Metall demands swift government relief on May Day

On the occasion of May Day, IG-Metall President Christiane Benner calls on the new federal government to take prompt relief measures. “The coalition understands how important industry is and is already providing relief to employees, for example, through the higher commuter allowance and rent brake. Now it must act” said Benner to the “Rheinische Post.”

May Day is a good occasion to say, “We want a government of labor” according to Benner. Good labor and wage policy, she sees as a chance to stop the Alternative for Germany (AfD): “The AfD advocates simple slogans and names problems, hardly more. Our task is to develop solutions. And we are doing that. We secure future-proof jobs and locations with future-oriented collective agreements. I am sure that if we give security to people in the companies, we can stop part of the influx to the AfD.”

From the companies, she demands: “I expect employers to take up the positive approaches in the coalition agreement and to create more confidence in the companies.”
