After the massive power outage on the Iberian Peninsula, electricity supply in Spain has been largely restored. The Spanish network operator Red Eléctrica announced on Tuesday morning that electricity is flowing at 99.16 percent. All substations of the network are also functioning again. In neighboring Portugal, most households have also been reconnected to the power grid.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez had previously indicated that normalcy would be restored by Tuesday. Investigations into the cause of the blackout are still ongoing and there are currently no indications of a cyber attack.
The power outage had caused significant disruptions on the Spanish mainland and in Portugal, as well as in parts of France and Andorra on Monday. Many people were stuck in trains, subways and elevators. Traffic lights were no longer functioning, internet and phone networks were down and hospitals were operating on emergency power.
