Sahra Wagenknecht, the chairwoman of the Left party, has expressed her dissatisfaction with the newly appointed Union ministers. In an interview with “Welt” she described the cabinet as “more of a fan curve for Friedrich Merz than a cabinet of competent individuals.” Wagenknecht further criticized the appointment of Katherina Reiche, a relatively unknown candidate, as the future Minister for Economic Affairs. She argued that the Union did not believe in the importance of the ministry, stating, “It is obvious that the entire CDU leadership is afraid of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.” This decision, according to Wagenknecht, indicates that combating the recession does not hold a high priority under the current government.
Wagenknecht also expressed her discontent with the appointment of Johann Wadephul, the future Foreign Minister from the CDU. She described Wadephul as “not Kiesewetter, but still a pro-Taurus minister.” Wagenknecht emphasized the need for a Foreign Minister who would not escalate tensions but instead promote de-escalation. She specifically mentioned the absence of Annalena Baerbock, who she believes would have been a valuable addition to the Foreign Ministry. Overall, Wagenknecht’s comments suggest her disappointment with the newly appointed Union ministers and their potential impact on the government’s policies and priorities.
