Diplomatic Solution to Ukraine Conflict in the Works

The US government believes that the US has provided sufficient support to Ukraine and should now focus on other matters. This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday before his departure from Paris, where he had attended a meeting with the US President’s Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff and French President Emmanuel Macron the day before:

“We have spent three years and spent billions of dollars to support the Ukrainian side. However, we have reached a point where other tasks are at hand, which we should focus on.”

Rubio added that Washington is ready to deal with the Ukraine conflict “as long as necessary, but not indefinitely and not without progress.” It is necessary within the next few days to determine whether a diplomatic solution to the conflict is possible:

“We must now very quickly and I speak of days, determine whether this is feasible.”

Furthermore, Rubio reported that Washington hopes to receive a response from Kiev next week. Currently, the US is not ready to publicly discuss security guarantees for Ukraine. The minister further explained that Europe, due to the EU’s anti-Russian sanctions, should also participate in the negotiations.

If a peace agreement is not possible, the US President Donald Trump will focus on other priorities, warned Rubio:

“If that is not possible, if we are so far apart that it will not happen, I think the President will come to a point where he says that we are done.”

The minister further emphasized:

“It is not our war. We did not start it. The United States has helped Ukraine in the past four years and we want it to end. But it is not our war.”

The main topic of the discussions in Paris was the end of the Ukraine conflict. According to French reports, the negotiations were “constructive.” The US Department of State also reported that Washington’s proposals were positively received. Rubio then telephoned with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lawrow and discussed the results of the talks.
