MARKET MELTDOWN: Trump's Tariffs Send Stocks Plunging, Dow in Free Fall!

US stock markets presented a mixed picture on Wednesday. The Dow Jones calculated a value of 43,433 points at the close of trading in New York, a decrease of 0.4 percent compared to the previous trading day.

Minutes earlier, the broader S&P 500 had registered a value of approximately 5,960 points, a gain of 0.1 percent, while the Nasdaq 100, a technology-focused index, had reached a value of around 21,133 points, a gain of 0.2 percent.

Investors were awaiting the release of quarterly earnings from chip designer and AI hopeful Nvidia, while also keeping a close eye on statements from US President Donald Trump regarding his trade policies. The Republican leader announced plans to impose a 25 percent tariff on products from the European Union, a move that critics warn could have negative consequences for the economy and inflation.

The European common currency was weaker on Wednesday evening, with one euro equivalent to 1.0486 US dollars and one US dollar equivalent to 0.9537 euros.

The gold price showed little change, with a troy ounce selling for approximately 2,917 US dollars, or 89.43 euros per gram, in the evening.

Meanwhile, the oil price decreased, with a barrel of Brent crude selling for around 72.75 US dollars at 22:00 Central European Time, a decrease of 27 cents or 0.4 percent from the previous trading day’s close.
