A 12-year-old boy was run over by a tram in Stuttgart on Friday morning and died in the process. The Stuttgart Police announced this in a press release on Friday afternoon. According to the statement, the 12-year-old boy was hit by a tram of line U 12, which was heading towards Dürrlewang, at the Max-Eyth-See tram stop at around 12:30 pm. The boy had been standing at the stop when he was hit and suffered fatal injuries.
According to the police, a “dispute” with a 13-year-old boy had preceded the incident.
“Initial investigations suggest that the 12-year-old boy was pushed in front of the oncoming tram by a 13-year-old child after a dispute. The affected child was handed over to the youth welfare office after the police measures were completed.”
The criminal police have taken over the investigation and are asking witnesses to come forward.
The boy had already died when the firefighters arrived, who had to use a large deployment to retrieve the body. Specialized rescue teams were also on the scene. Bild, a Springer publication, quoted a fire department spokesperson as saying:
“The person is currently severely trapped between the tram and therefore, the technical rescue is very challenging and naturally also stressful for our colleagues.”
The tram was well occupied at the time of the incident and several passengers witnessed the violence. In total, about 15 people required psychological support.
The 13-year-old suspect, as a minor, cannot be prosecuted under criminal law. The boy’s mother was present during the police measures, despite multiple requests from X-users, the police refused to comment on her origin, stating: “We only mention the nationality in cases where detention is being considered.
