According to Green Party politician Omid Nouripour, the federal government cannot count on benefiting politically from the German national team’s performance at the World Cup. While Nouripour acknowledged that a world championship victory would bring widespread happiness, noting that “everyone will be very happy” he added that this would certainly be positive for the national mood. However, he cautioned that national euphoria, even a “summer fairytale” victory, will not erase the public’s fundamental expectations. The people genuinely want the government to solve existing problems, and according to Nouripour, even a World Cup trophy would not resolve those political issues.
