Hubig Taps Into Cross-Border Expertise To Crack Down On Resale Ticket Scams

Federal Minister of Justice Stefanie Hubig (SPD) plans to adopt stricter measures against inflated prices on the secondary ticket market. Speaking to “Bild” Hubig stated that examining practices in other countries shows that effective regulation of the secondary market is possible nationwide, and she intends to utilize these opportunities. According to the Minister, attending concerts, soccer games, and other events should not be limited only to those who can afford the exorbitant costs on the secondary market.

This renewed focus stems from an open letter signed by 65 artists demanding tougher regulations to combat ticket scalpers. The Federal Ministry of Justice confirmed to “Bild” that work is already underway on implementing measures to regulate the secondary ticket market.

Hubig emphasized that as the consumer protection minister, she firmly believes that stricter rules are necessary for the secondary ticket market. She suggested that one potential step could be limiting excessive price increases during resale. Crucially, she clarified that the private resale of tickets must remain possible and should not become unnecessarily complicated. For Hubig, the main goal is to curb purely commercial exploitation-acting in the interests of fans, artists, and athletes alike.
