German Government Welcomes Extension of Ceasefire in Iran Conflict

The German government welcomed the extension of the ceasefire between the USA and Iran, calling it a vital opportunity to advance diplomatic talks in Islamabad toward achieving lasting peace and preventing further escalation of the conflict. According to a statement released on Thursday, the German government stressed that Tehran must seize this chance.

Specifically, the state has called on Iran to halt its military nuclear program and cease threatening Israel and other neighboring countries. Furthermore, it emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz must be kept open permanently, reliably, and without any restrictions or fees.

The government outlined that should a comprehensive agreement be reached, it stands ready, together with its partners, to progressively ease existing restrictive measures. Conversely, if Iran continues to block the Strait of Hormuz, the German government is prepared to discuss the implementation of additional sanctions. Upon achieving a lasting end to combat operations, the German government aims to contribute, alongside its partners, to ensuring free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

The state concluded by stating that it will continue to work diplomatically toward achieving a permanent end to the fighting in Southern Lebanon.
