Under the leadership of Europol, law enforcement authorities across multiple countries conducted a coordinated operation targeting propaganda produced by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to Europol’s announcement on Monday, a total of 14,200 internet posts linked to the IRGC were identified and targeted in this action. The effort was spearheaded by the EU Internet Referral Unit (EU IRU) with the primary goal of exposing and disrupting the group’s online presence. The IRGC was using its digital platforms to disseminate propaganda, recruit supporters, and raise funds.
Nineteen nations participated in the initiative, including Germany, France, and the United States. Over a period spanning from February 13th to April 28th, authorities worked in synchronized phases. Their efforts involved gathering intelligence, verifying targets, and submitting joint reports to major online platforms. The propaganda spread across several languages, including Arabic, English, and Spanish. To sustain its online activities, the IRGC utilized an extensive network of hosting service providers located in various nations.
The background for the operation was strengthened by the European Union, which officially designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization on February 19, 2026. This designation empowered law enforcement authorities to take action against the activities of the IRGC’s members and supporting units within the EU.
