Harmful consumer goods are still being sold online for years, even after official warnings from the EU were issued. The Federal Association for Consumer Advice (VZBV) examined the EU database, which requires online marketplaces to document the deletion of their products. According to the analysis, the five largest shopping platforms in Germany alone removed nearly 70 million items just in November 2025, as cited by the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” in its Monday edition. Of this total, 30 million were classified as “unsafe” or “prohibited”. However, the comparison against the EU database is incomplete, which means dangerous products continue to be offered in online commerce. Consequently, the VZBV is calling for that unsafe products should not be put up for sale online in the first place.
