Chart Shock Blume Takes Top Spot on German Album Charts This Week

The German album charts saw a complete reshuffling this week. GfK reported on Friday that Felix Blume, formerly operating under the name Kollegah, is the new chart leader. His album, “Alpha DNA” successfully displaced last week’s winner, Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard And Soft” to reach number eight.

Following Blume is the US punk rock band Social Distortion with “Born To Kill” and the spot at number three is occupied by a tribute album for Udo Lindenberg, who is celebrating his 80th birthday on Sunday. Providing the soundtrack for Lindenberg’s birthday celebration, 24 music stars-ranging from Hans Zimmer to Tokio Hotel, and featuring Ina Müller-are paying homage to him with their own interpretations of his biggest hits.

Further down the charts, Maite Kelly’s “24/7” takes place at number four, while number five is held by “Sing meinen Song – Das Tauschkonzert, Vol. 13”. This selection features current stars covering hit songs, including Giovanni Zarrella, Graf von Unheilig, and Alina Süggeler, the vocalist from Frida Gold.

In the single charts, Justin Bieber maintained their top spot from last week with “Beauty and a Beat”. Taking over number two is Cave & Amo with “Casa Suba”.

The rest of the single charts showed minimal movement compared to the previous week. Zara Larsson remains at number three with “Lush Life” and Tame Impala’s “Dracula” holds the position at number four. Meanwhile, Michael Jackson climbed one place up, with “Billie Jean” settling at number five.

The official German charts are determined by GfK Entertainment on behalf of the German Music Industry Association, covering 90 percent of all music sales.
