Television presenter Paula Lambert has publicly linked patriarchal structures to elevated suicide rates among men, citing alignment with recent research.
In an interview with the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”, Lambert referenced a Swiss study indicating that men adhering to traditional gender roles demonstrate a significantly higher risk of suicide. She suggested a greater acknowledgement of these findings is crucial. Lambert posited that men could thrive and experience increased well-being in more egalitarian societies.
Simultaneously, Lambert expressed concern over a perceived resurgence of traditional gender roles, observing expectations for women to conform to specific aesthetic standards while men remain confined within patriarchal systems, hindering personal development. She further attributed this trend, in part, to the influence of social media platforms, specifically citing platforms like OnlyFans, describing the situation as “very sad”. Lambert emphasized that patriarchy negatively impacts male happiness as well, arguing it does not serve the well-being of all genders.
