Liz Truss has been appointed to succeed Boris Johnson, becoming the 56th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
In a break from tradition, Johnson and his successor will go to Balmoral – rather than Buckingham Palace – for the appointment of the new prime minister.
The Queen will host Johnson, where he will formally hand in his resignation.
She will then have an audience with the new Conservative leader, where she will be invited to form a government.
Truss’s potential cabinet has been the subject of frenzied speculation, but commentators seem united in the belief that the Business Secretary, Kwasi Kwarteng, will become her chancellor.
British media reports that the energy crisis will be at the center of Truss’ speech from Downing Street, which she is likely to deliver on Tuesday.
There is also growing expectation that the incoming prime minister will make an early visit to Kiev to show support for Ukraine.
However, Truss will face a number of “problems” when he arrives in Downing Street, particularly what to do about the continuing rise in the cost of living.
