Warnings for extreme temperatures in England.
British citizens have been warned of extreme temperatures for the first time in England, where they could reach up to 40 degrees Celsius.
Forecasters now say there is an 80 per cent chance the mercury will hit the UK’s highest ever record temperature of 38.7C set at Cambridge University Botanic Gardens on July 25, 2019.
There is a possibility that temperatures will reach 40 degrees Celsius somewhere in the UK.
The forecaster said the “extraordinary hot spell” would bring “major impacts on people and infrastructure”.
“Adverse health effects across the population” are expected, meaning it will not be limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat.
Public transport can also be affected by high temperatures, which can cause
temporary interruption due to the influence of heat on railway lines.
Network Rail also announced that slower speeds may have to apply and reminded people to take water with them on journeys.
