Ukraine has $10 billion worth of wheat available.
Ukraine has about $10 billion of wheat available for sale following a deal signed with Russia to unblock supplies and will also have a chance to sell the current crop, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
“Approximately 20 million tons of last year’s wheat harvest will be exported. There will also be a chance to sell this year’s harvest… at the moment we have about $10 billion worth of wheat at our disposal,” Zelensky said.
Turkey, the UN, Russia and Ukraine signed a landmark agreement on Friday in Istanbul to reopen Ukrainian Black Sea ports to wheat exports, raising hopes that an international food crisis worsened by the Russian incursion could be eased.
“This is another demonstration that Ukraine can resist war,” he was quoted as saying in a speech late Friday.
“In this context, I am especially grateful to the UN Secretary General and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for their efforts,” Zelensky added.
The Istanbul agreement, brokered by Turkey, is a chance to prevent a global food catastrophe that could cause chaos in many countries, Zelensky further said.
