The JW Space Telescope discovers water on a distant planet.
NASA has announced that the James Webb Space Telescope has detected signs of water on a planet thousands of light years away.
The US space agency says the multibillion-dollar telescope has “stumbled upon signs of water” on the gas giant planet WASP 96-b, which orbits a star about 1,150 light-years away.
“For the first time, we have detected and analyzed evidence of clouds in the atmosphere of this exoplanet,” said the NASA statement.
NASA’s discovery comes as ESA (European Space Agency) and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) have shared for the first time the set of full-color images taken by the telescope that captured deep images of the universe. which are considered the most advanced so far.
The high-resolution images also show stellar life cycles and interacting galaxies.
The latest discovery offers hope that the most powerful space telescope ever built could help search for alien life, but also discover potentially habitable planets for humanity.
“Exploration of exoplanets is now the main component of the mission,” the NASA spokesman said.
