Olena Zelenska meets with Joe and Jill Biden.
Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska is at the White House meeting her American counterpart, Jill Biden, before speaking to members of Congress.
Joe Biden handed Zelenska a large bouquet of flowers, while the president’s wife greeted him with a hug.
A White House statement said the first ladies were discussing “continued United States support for the government of Ukraine and its people as they defend their democracy and confront the significant human impacts of Russia’s war, which will be felt for years to come,” as well as ways to hold Russia accountable for war crimes.
After speaking with Mrs. Biden, she will meet with second in command, Douglas Emhoff, US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, and other US government officials.
On Monday, Zelenska met with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and USAID Administrator Samantha Power, and on Wednesday will address members of the US House of Representatives and Senate at 11 a.m. local time.
Otherwise, Russia has continued today with bombings of the Ukrainian state, causing material damage and casualties.
