A pizza delivery man saves five children from a fire.
An Indiana pizza delivery man is being hailed as a hero by local officials after entering a house engulfed in flames last week and saving the lives of several children trapped inside the burning structure.
Nicholas Bostic, 25, was driving in Lafayette, Indiana, shortly after midnight on July 11 when he saw a house on fire, according to a news release from the Lafayette Police Department.
Bostic was able to enter through a back door that was open and began checking to see if anyone was home, according to the release.
As he went upstairs, he found four children – aged between one and 18 – asleep and woke them up, helping them leave the house.
After Bostic was able to get the children out of the home, he learned that the fifth child, a six-year-old girl, was still inside.
Going back inside, he looked for the girl and when he heard crying, he eventually found her, police said.
Bostic was unable to find a way out to the main floor as the flames intensified, police said, and the two were forced to jump from a second-story window.
Bostic had to break the window by hand to open it, the release said.
The Lafayette Police Department posted dramatic video on social media showing the moment firefighters arrived at the home, and Bostic is later seen walking from the burning home with the daughter in his arms.
As he approaches the firemen, he hands the girl over to the firemen and sits on the ground.
Bostic was seriously injured during the rescue, according to authorities, suffering from smoke inhalation and deep cuts to his right arm.
According to the announcement, the girl “miraculously was mostly unharmed”.
