Slovakia can send Soviet-made planes to Ukraine.
Slovakia will consider sending Soviet-made MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, but only if alternative defenses for its airspace can be arranged, said the country’s prime minister, Eduard Heger.
Ukraine has demanded heavy weapons and aircraft as part of its defense against Russia.
Western countries have begun increasingly supplying weapons, but previous discussions on securing the MiG-29 – which are also used by Poland and Bulgaria – have stalled.
This is because the plans were perceived as too dangerous in increasing tensions between Russia and NATO.
Slovakia has already given Ukraine the S-300 air defense system designed by the Soviet Union.
