Russia completed the regrouping of troops.
Russian forces have completed the regrouping of troops to launch an offensive in eastern Ukraine, a spokesman for Ukraine’s defense ministry said on Monday.
“The strengthening of the attacking group is happening due to the transfer of additional Russian units. “The most intense fighting is taking place in the Slobozhansky and Donetsk regions,” Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk was quoted as saying during a press conference.
“Russia is preparing for an offensive in eastern Ukraine to establish full control over the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and to ensure the stability of the land corridor with Crimea,” Motuzyanyk said.
He added that Ukrainian forces took several settlements from Russian forces around the town of Izium in the Kharkiv region.
The spokesman said that the city of Izium and the surrounding areas are the places with the largest concentration of Russian units.
“From that place they will try to develop an offensive in the east,” he continued.
