Israel accuses Russia of committing war crimes.
Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid has “strongly” condemned Russia’s “war crimes” in Ukraine in a statement that intensifies Israeli criticism of Russia since the aggression in Ukraine.
“The images and evidence from Ukraine are appalling. Russian forces commit war crimes against a vulnerable civilian population. “I strongly condemn these war crimes,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett condemned the killing of civilians in Bucha, but did not hold Russian forces accountable.
Bennett told a news conference: “We are shocked by the horrific scenes in Bucha – horrific scenes – and condemn them. “The suffering of Ukrainian citizens is great and we are doing everything we can to help.”
Otherwise, Israeli officials have discussed several times with Vladimir Putin about the possibility of reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
