Summary of the 14th day of Russian aggression in Ukraine.
Another 12-hour ceasefire was agreed late last night to allow civilians to leave some of Ukraine’s worst-hit regions – Sumy, Mariupol, Kiev, Enerhodar and Kharkiv.
Agreed ceasefire have failed in the most affected parts of Ukraine. Officials say civilians were able to leave Sumy, Enerhodar and parts of the Kiev region through humanitarian corridors. Evacuations from Kharkiv and Mariupol were impossible;
In the southern port city of Mariupol, a children’s hospital and maternity ward were destroyed by a Russian air strike;
The death toll in the besieged city is estimated at 1,200, and the situation there has been described as “apocalyptic;
Russia has acknowledged for the first time the use of recruits in its occupation of Ukraine;
Ukraine says it does not know the radiation levels at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which is under Russian control. The plant is disconnected from the country’s electricity grid;
The UN says almost 2.2 million refugees have fled Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24;
The US Congress will approve $ 13.6 billion in aid to Ukraine;
Less than 1,000 family visas have been issued in the UK so far – after refugees in Poland were told they would have to wait two weeks for the UK visa appointment.
