Felix Banaszak, the Green Party’s chair, is still waiting for a beer with Friedrich Merz in his local pub. “There’s no commitment” he said in the RTL and ntv show “Frühstart” on Tuesday.
Despite significant political differences, Banaszak considers it essential to remain conversation-friendly and even above the belt during the election campaign, he said. “If one can no longer manage to speak with each other, then we’ll soon have situations like in the US, where Democrats and Republicans can no longer be in the same room without wanting to strangle each other.”
Banaszak would also invite Markus Söder to his local pub for a beer to get to know the “real life” there. “In my local pub in Duisburg, you can see more of Germany than Söder and Merz can imagine together” said the Green Party chief. “There, the performance factors on both sides of the counter are equally valued. The word of the steelworker counts no less than that of the chairman. Maybe even a bit more, if one is honest.
