Furious Green Minister Slams Electric Car Subsidy!

Baden-Württemberg’s Finance Minister, Danyal Bayaz (Greens), has spoken out against a purchase premium for e-cars. “These are economic straw fires that only lead to a lot happening for a short time and then nothing for years” he said in an interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”.

Bayaz called for a market-based approach to climate protection, which would also mean allowing prices to rise. “Social-ecological market economy means creating a framework that is planable, reliable, and based on pricing” he said.

In his view, the tank discount and the delayed increase in the CO2 price were mistakes of the government coalition. “For social hardships, there are measures like the climate fund” he said.

Bayaz sees a possible coalition between the Union and the Greens after the federal election as promising for combining the economy and ecology. Regarding demands from the Union for a review of the heating law, he said: “From my respected colleague Jens Spahn, I read a lot, from Syria to the heat pump, there are also quick fixes. Sometimes I wonder, how to get down from the trees one climbs, if one should rule again in the future.”

Bayaz also praises the “Economic Turn” paper of the FDP, but criticizes the proposed delay of Germany’s climate neutrality target to 2050. “That was again the wrong signal, that climate protection is not that important” he said.

His party has called on him to engage less in micro-management of climate protection. In this sense, it was good that Federal Economic Minister Habeck (Greens) corrected the building energy act. However, he criticized Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) for showing “little leadership” in climate protection and for making “irresponsible statements” that a “green economic miracle” is coming soon, which harm the cause.
