The Union is accusing Education Minister Cem Özdemir (Greens) of not having the agreed-upon compromise for the Digital Pact 2.0 for schools backed by budget funds. “Cem Özdemir is handing the states an unsecured check” said Thomas Jarzombek, the education policy spokesperson for the Union’s parliamentary group in the Bundestag, to the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” (Friday edition).
The coalition has made no provisions for digital education in the federal budget over three years. “The intention to implement the Digital Pact 2.0 is not based on a solid foundation” the CDU politician said. Özdemir was only concerned with quick results. “Through the delay tactics of the coalition, too much time was wasted, and the Digital Pact 2.0 was not anchored in a budget-friendly and modern way” the education policy expert criticized.
“That Mr. Özdemir did not even seek a conversation with us, the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, before reaching an agreement, shows his lack of interest in the actual implementation of the Digital Pact 2.0” Jarzombek said further. In his opinion, a Digital Pact 2.0 would only have real benefits if it focused more on data-driven learning and innovative teaching concepts.
