The new EU Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius has warned of an attack by Russia and demanded faster arms production. “To be honest, we are not adequately prepared for an attack” Kubilius told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” (Friday edition). “It will take years for us in Europe to have the capabilities demanded in NATO plans.”
Kubilius referred to statements by intelligence agencies, which claim that Russia will be ready to attack EU states by 2030. “Experts say that Russia now produces more tanks than it deploys at the front” he warned. “Countless tanks are being stockpiled.”
He naturally wonders why Russia does this and what Putin intends. “We can only speculate about that” Kubilius said. “But it’s important to be prepared for the worst-case scenario, as the intelligence agencies warn.
