North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister-President Hendrik Wüst (CDU) holds Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) responsible for the failure of the planned power plant law in this legislative period. “Chancellor Scholz had three years to present a power plant strategy. He has failed, just like he has failed on so many other economic policy tasks” Wüst told the “Rheinische Post” (Friday edition).
“The draft presented by the federal government this year is and remains largely insufficient in essential points” the CDU politician criticized, but at the same time, he called for a quick implementation in a revised form: “The power plant strategy must come quickly. But it must primarily fulfill its purpose, securing our energy system. It does not. The government’s actions under Scholz put a premature exit from coal at risk.”
Energy security is “elementary” for North Rhine-Westphalia’s industrial location, Wüst said. “It is the basis for many good jobs and our prosperity. To guarantee energy security even after the coal exit, we need a far-sighted and well-thought-out power plant strategy” Wüst added.
