Germany’s domestic tourism declined in October. Compared to the previous year’s month, the number of overnight stays rose by 2.5% to 45.5 million, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported on Wednesday with preliminary results.
The number of overnight stays by foreign guests increased by 1.1% to 7 million. The increase in overnight stays by domestic guests, on the other hand, was 2.7%, with the number rising to 38.5 million.
A new record for overnight stays was recorded for the first ten months of 2024. The accommodations industry has so far registered a total of 433.1 million overnight stays, which is 1.6% more than in the previous year’s period. The number also lies 0.2% above the previous record value for the first ten months of a year, which was recorded before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in January to October 2019 (432.3 million).
The number of overnight stays by domestic guests increased by 0.8% to 359.8 million compared to January to October 2023. Overnight stays by foreign guests, on the other hand, fell by 5.5% to 73.2 million.
