German Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus (Greens) has presented a violence protection strategy, which is set to be approved by the cabinet on Wednesday, as reported by the “Spiegel”. The strategy, which includes 120 measures, with some already in implementation, has a coordination office at the Federal Family Ministry as its core, which coordinates measures between the individual ministries. A similar office is part of the Istanbul Convention on the Protection of Women against Violence, which has been in effect in Germany since 2018. Until now, Germany had not implemented this point. The office will also monitor the implementation of the measures against violence.
In addition, the strategy demands a reform of the violence protection law. Through a law change, the court should be given the opportunity to order the perpetrator to attend a social training course. Furthermore, the use of electronic residence monitoring should be enabled, as stated in the document. However, as mentioned in the strategy itself, this will only be possible in the next legislative period.
