Green party chair Franziska Brantner has shown openness to a coalition with CSU leader Markus Söder. “I don’t rule out anything under democrats” she told Politico’s news magazine (Wednesday edition).
“From the Union, one always hears different voices. One doesn’t know exactly what will happen in the end.” Brantner said the Greens don’t hate Bavaria, calling it “nonsense”. For the Greens, the current priority is: “We want to lower energy prices, de-bureaucratize, accelerate, invest in our innovation and infrastructure. These are the goals I stand for” said the party chair.
Economic growth and climate goals would not be mutually exclusive, on the contrary: “Fortunately, the question is not between climate protection and economy, but in climate technologies, there are great economic opportunities” said the State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
First, the energy prices need to be lowered to boost economic growth, Brantner said. For this, the Union’s cooperation in the Bundestag is still needed: “Reducing network charges massively – that’s our proposal to make energy cheap for companies in the long term. I hope the CDU will come on board” Brantner said.
