The Dax index slightly retreated at the start of the week. At the close of the Xetra trading session, the index was calculated at 20,345.96 points, a 0.19% decrease compared to the previous trading day. The index initially reached a new record high of 20,461.85 points at the start of trading, but failed to hold onto it.
Rheinmetall’s stock prices were at the bottom of the list, with losses of over 5%, closely followed by Vonovia and Deutsche Telekom. On the other hand, shares of Mercedes Benz, BASF, and Porsche recorded gains of around 3%.
Market observers believe that investors are taking a pause after the recent record-breaking run and are waiting for new impulses, including those from the ECB.
The euro was slightly stronger against the US dollar, with one euro costing 1.0578 US dollars, and one US dollar being equivalent to 0.9454 euros.
The gold price profited significantly, with a fine ounce being sold for 2,668 US dollars (+1.3%) in the afternoon, which is equivalent to 81.08 euros per gram.
Meanwhile, the oil price rose significantly: a barrel of North Sea Brent crude oil cost 72.50 US dollars at around 5 pm German time, a 1.9% increase from the previous trading day’s close.
