The way is clear for the so-called Brombeer-Coalition in Thuringia. After CDU and BSW already agreed on cooperation, SPD members also gave their consent in a basic vote.
According to the party, which announced this on Monday in Erfurt, 68 percent of the participants voted in favor of the coalition. Nearly half of all SPD members in the state took part in the voting period, said SPD state leader Georg Maier.
“We will take responsibility for the state in difficult times.”
Thuringia’s CDU leader Mario Voigt will run for the office of Minister-President in parliament on Thursday. The Brombeer-Coalition, however, only holds half of the seats in the state parliament. Voigt needs at least one vote from the opposition, but in later voting rounds, it would suffice to gain the most votes of all candidates.
