German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) received a steel summit on Monday at the Chancellor’s Office, with the heads of industry, labor representatives, and trade unions in attendance.
Scholz had previously announced that the meeting would focus on “concrete measures” to ensure the steel production in Germany. He emphasized the importance of “reliable electricity prices,” the promotion of investments, and protecting against “dumped steel.”
No press conference was initially announced after the meeting.
The entire industry, including the steel sector in Germany, has been under increasing pressure recently. For instance, Thyssenkrupp, Germany’s largest steel conglomerate, announced that around 11,000 positions would be cut by 2030, with 5,000 jobs being eliminated and an additional 6,000 positions lost due to outsourcing or the sale of business activities.
