CDU’s Union Fractio Vice President Johann Wadephul reiterates Friedrich Merz’s ultimatum to Vladimir Putin, stating that if Moscow continues to bomb infrastructure and civilian population, Germany should deliver the Taurus. The statement “stands from Merz’s perspective,” Wadephul told the news magazine Politico in its Monday edition.
“Merz has generally expressed support for delivering Taurus.” It’s also about the timing, Wadephul said: “You need four months for Taurus training. Merz is likely to be the new federal chancellor in early May. So, one must ask: Do we still need Taurus in September of the next year?”
Wadephul showed openness to a new special fund for the German Bundeswehr: “In my view, it’s the absolute priority to provide the necessary funds for the Bundeswehr, as well as for Ukraine.” It’s not ruled out that a special fund may be necessary. In response to a related question, Wadephul said: “Exactly.
